The Aram Bagh Karachi (Urdu: آرام باغ meaning Garden of relaxation) is situated in the area of Saddar Town in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. The Aram Bagh Masjid is also resided in this place of Park. This astonishing garden is located in densely populated uptown area of Karachi encircled by apartment buildings and shopping centers.
History of Aram Bagh Karachi
There has been abundance of water in the garden of Aram Bagh area of Karachi since historical times and several wells were dug here to supply water to the households and inhabitants that settled around it. In accordance to Hindu myth, the Hindu avatars Ram, Sita and Lakshman stayed and rested at this location on their sacred way to the Hinglaj pilgrimage. The city of Karachi was known as Ramya in few Greek texts. In the year of 1857, during the war of liberation against the British colonialism, the freedom fighters were blasted by canons by the British forces in this garden. A park was constructed on this location in the year of 1939 and was named Ram Bagh i.e. Garden of Ram. After the independence of Pakistan in the year of 1947, thousands of Muslim refugees from the state of India fleeing from anti-Muslim programs set up camps in it and the name was changed to Aram Bagh i.e. Garden of relaxation to mark the end of their arduous journey to the state of Pakistan. A beautiful Masjid was constructed in Aram Bagh Karachi by the Muslims refugees that settled down around this amazing place after the emergence and independence of Pakistan.
