Asad Umar (born on the day of 8 September 1961 as Asad Farooq) is a famous Pakistani legislator and a retired businessman who serves as high-ranking member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) since the year of April 2012.
Born in the city of Rawalpindi, he was raised mainly in the city of Karachi. Umar Umar studied commerce at the institute of Government College, Karachi and shifted on to get his MBA in finance from IBA Karachi in the year of 1984. He was a popular hostelite of IBA boys’ hostel. He previously joined HSBC but left some months later to work with ExxonMobil in the city of Karachi. He shifted to work as an analyst at the company’s Canadian operations in the year of 1989, but came back to Pakistan in the year of 1991, after the employee buyout of ExxonMobil’s Pakistan’s operation’s which led to the development of the Engro Corp. He sustained working with Engro, and in the year of January 1997 was elected as the head of Engro’s chemicals division.
Umar Asad became the chief executive officer of Engro in the year of January 2004, and remained so until the month of April 2012. During his era, he developed Engro Foods, while extending the company’s existing operations. He also oversaw the increase in corporate revenues from Rs.13 billion in the year of 2004 to Rs. 114 billion in the year of 2011. His tenure at Engro made him one of the most famous and highly paid CEOs in the state of Pakistan. He joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf shortly after his departure from Engro, and worked as national campaign manager of party during the year of 2013 elections. He was appointed to the National Assembly in the month of August 2013 from Islamabad and serves as a frontbencher for the party.
Political career of Asad Umar
Asad Umar gave resignation as CEO of Engro Corporation on the day of 19 April 2012 and joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. At PTI, he’ll be part of committee to work on a draft paper to recommend economic reforms to take Pakistan out of present financial crisis. Asad Umar was appointed as the Central Senior Vice President of PTI on the day of 21 April 2012. He was appointed as a Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan for NA-48 Islamabad in a 2013 by-election. Asad Umar was elected as National Campaign Manager for 2013 General Elections. Asad Umar was appointed as Chairman PTI Policy Council.
