Keenjhar Lake (Urdu: ڪينجهر جھیل Sindhi: ڪينجهر ڍنڍ) usually known as Kalri Lake (Urdu: کلری جھیل ,Sindhi: ڪلڙي ڍنڍ ) is in the area of Thatta District at the province of Sindh, Pakistan. It is about 122 kilometers from the city of Karachi and 18 kilometers from the town of Thatta. It is the 2nd greatest fresh water lake in the state of Pakistan. It is a significant source of drinking water for the place of Thatta District and Karachi city.
The Keenjhar Lake has been declared a ramsar location and a wildlife refuge. It offers a favorable habitat of the season of winter migratory birds such as ducks, geese, cormorants, flamingos, waders, egrets, herons, terns, ibises, coots and gulls. It has been analyzed as a breeding place of the black-crowned night heron, purple swamp-hen, the cotton pygmy goose, and pheasant-tailed jacana.
Keenjhar Lake is a famous tourist resort place. A huge number of persons visit it daily from the cities of Karachi, Hyderabad and Thatta to amuse the picnic, swimming, fishing, and boating.
The Sindhi legend and icon of Noori Jam Tamachi took place around the lake. To this day there is a tomb in the middle of the lake marking Noori’s grave. Every day several followers and devotees visit the tomb.
