Miandam is a charismatic hill station situated in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, in the foothills of Hindukush Mountains. It is situated at a distance of 55 kilometers away from the area of Mingora the capital of Swat Valley, and 56 kilometers (35 mi) from Saidu Sharif. The main road continues north up the place of swat valley and reaches the village of Fatehpur, where the road branches off towards the side of east and runs through charming hillside villages and reaches the famous hill resort of Miandam. Miandam is a very awe-inspiring tourist location at an elevation of 1,800 m (5,900 ft) above the sea level.
Miandam is much enriched in the medicinal plants, owing to which the place is the site of a World Wide Fund for Nature project promoting sustainable harvesting of medicinal plants, and now over 1,000 persons are dependent on the medicinal plant trade for their whole income. The key economy of the region is deployed on the tourism and agriculture. While agriculture is mostly centered on the corn and potatoes, As of 1988 year, its population was 3,000; but it is now claimed to be 20,000, involving neighboring hamlets.
Description of Miandam
On entering to the area of Miandam valley, the metalled road passes through various small hillside villages in a spiral manner and leads to a castle like place, encircled by terraced fields, fruit orchards and attractive lush green mountain slopes. Paths follow the beautiful waterfalls, past houses with beehives set into the walls. The place serve as the base camp for a trek that lead to the Dadsar baba top, which is a hidden heaven for adventurous hikers. Similarly, in the historical past, the region had been inhabited by the Buddhist individuals, which is proved by several grave posts excavated in the region, which are carved wooden grave posts with floral designs, such as those utilized by Buddhists about 1,000 years ago.
