KARACHI: Popular Pakistani novelist and playwright Fatima Surayya Bajia died in the city of Karachi after suffering through prolonged sickness at the age of 85 on the day of Tuesday.
Born on the day of September 1 1930 in Indian Hyderabad, she moved to Pakistan soon after the partition along with her family involving popular artists and intellectuals Anwar Maqsood and Zehra Nigah (brother and sister).
Bajia was granted numerous awards involving the Pride of Performance and Hilal-e-Imtiaz for her services to the performing arts in the country. She was also honored with Japan’s greatest civil award in recognition of her works. She also served as an advisor to the Chief Minister of Sindh.
