Skardu Valley of Pakistan is also popular because of its beautiful lakes. Satpara is included among one of those lakes, available at a distance of 8 Kilometer from Vale of Skardu. Currently, a multipurpose dam is under the construction on this lake that will produce 13 MW hydroelectricity and will give irrigation water to a place of 61 square Kilometer and 13 cusecs water for drinking as well. Water flowing down from Deosai Plain as an outcome of melting of snow in the season of summer is the primary source of water for lake. Lower Kachura is another lake situated at a distance of 35 Kilometer from Skardu Valley and upper Kachura Lake is situated at a distance of 40 Kilometer. On the bank of Lower Kachura, world’s popular resort Shangrilla is situated that is the primary attraction for many visitors.
Deosai Plateau is the greatest plateau in the country Pakistan and world’s 2nd largest plateau. It is at the distance of 70 Kilometer from Skardu Valley. It is estimated to cover an area of 3,000 square Kilometer and is extending till Laddakh. Deosai plain is popular as it offer habitat to snow leopards, bears and ibex.
Shigar Valley is a picturesque valley resided at the distance of 32 Kilometer from Vale of skardu. This magnificent valley is drained by River Shigar. This Shigar valley is a doorway to popular peaks such as K2. Regional inhabitants have very normal lifestyle and they grow walnuts, apricots, peaches and grapes. This small valley has awe-inspiring landscape and pursues many visitors every year.
Khaplu Valley is 134 Kilometer away from Skardu valley and is famous as valley of River Shyok. It is a small village that is a doorway to various peaks like K7, K6, Sia Kangri, Saltoro Kangri Masherbrum etc.
Skardu Fort which is named as Kharfocho Fort (King of forts) is also a primary attraction in Skardu Valley. This ancient fort dates from 8th century CE. From this fort, we can have a splendid view of Skardu and River Indus. This fort was constructed by the rulers of region Baltistan and is a 7- storey building.
